What do you like to write?

I write YA contemporary and fantasy. I want to tell stories that represent the world around us, but I especially want to write stories that young brown girls can pick up and feel seen.

What do you like to read?

Almost everything! Young Adult is my favorite genre, but I’ve been known to delve into New Adult, Adult and some Middle Grade. I tend to prefer fantasy and contemporary, but I’ll usually read almost everything if it has my favorite tropes.

Any advice for aspiring authors?

Yes! So much! First of all, don’t stop writing. That seems obvious, but it’s true. We improve every single day and even if the story you’re writing now isn’t the one, it just means it’s warming you up for the real deal. Second, if possible, I’d definitely check out a mentorship program. I was a part of Author Mentor Match round 6 and it was (and still is) one of the best things to ever happen to me. It’s great to have someone to guide you along the way (shoutout to my incredible mentor Christine Calella!) as well as a community of people who are in the same stage as you (R6 Write Club, I adore you!) and will support you on your journey.

Any specific examples of what you enjoy?

Books: There’s too many! Seriously, I can’t even begin to list all of them. You can always tweet me asking for specific recommendations, and I’m happy to oblige.
